Elfrieda A. Austin, age 87, went to be with the Lord on April 4th, 2012. She was a longtime resident of Palm Beach County and is predeceased by her husband Lee R. Austin, her adopted daughter Debra Belcher, her brother Arnold Hofer and her sisters Elisabeth Muck and Maria Ortner. Elfrieda was born on January 29th, 1925 to Jakob and Maria Hofer in Gross Tajax, Czechoslovakia. After required schooling, she trained to become a Red Cross nurse and served during World War II in Vienna, Austria. When the war ended, she moved to Germany where she met her love of her life, Sgt. Lee R. Austin, who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. They were married in Walldorf, Germany on June 21st, 1951. Following extensive travels in Europe and the United States, they made their home in West Palm Beach, Florida where she continued her nursing career. They were blessed with a marriage of 49 years. Elfrieda was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW and also a member of the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed volunteering, playing bingo, helping people in need and she took great pleasure in caring for stray animals. She is survived by her granddaughter, Lisa Marie Hall, five nieces and one nephew. Her generosity and her sparkly personality will be greatly missed. A graveside service to celebrate the life of Elfrieda A. Austin will be held on Saturday, April 14th, 2012 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to your favorite charity.
