She was born in New York in 1929, and received her bachelor’s degree in art from Skidmore College. After working as a textile designer in New York, she married Sander Weinstock and moved with him to Palm Beach. She painted until her death, showing her work at a Worth Avenue gallery and seeking out art wherever she could find it. Within hours of her arrival in a city, she was at its museum.
Her transition to politics began in the 1960s, when she was President of the Florida League of Women Voters. After watching the Florida House vote against the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, for which she had campaigned tirelessly, she decided to run against her representative, who had voted against it. To her surprise, she won, and so began her political career.
Her husband died in 2008. She is survived by her three children Jane, Chuck, and Ann; and two grandchildren, Alexander and Caroline.
There will be a private service for family and friends. Condolences may be sent to
