Alfredo Luis Hernandez, 92, peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his family in West Palm Beach, FL on June 15, 2019. He was born on December 31, 1926, in Cienfuegos, Cuba, to Alfredo and Luisa (Acevedo) Hernandez.
Alfredo grew up in Cuba and married Anita Villa in 1950. They immigrated to the United States in 1960 with their four daughters. Alfredo graduated from medical school at the University of Havana and had advanced degrees from the Menniger Institute in Kansas. He practiced psychiatry with a specialty in addictionology at various local hospitals and Institutions in Palm Beach County as well as an ongoing private practice. He retired in 2017 at the age of 90.
Papi, as he was known to those who knew him best, was devoted to God, his Catholic faith, and his family. He loved nothing better than telling a good joke (or a bad one), watching a selection from his enormous movie collection or cooking a delicious meal while spending time with family and friends. He traveled the world with his wife Anita and his children and grandchildren. Whether at his beach condos or his vacation retreat at Disney World, he gave his family a lifetime of memories. He was a surprisingly good painter and never hesitated to spread his masterpieces around. Papi’s family, the Blue Team, will forever cherish the legacy he leaves behind. Faith. Love. Family.
Alfredo was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Anita Villa Hernandez, and his daughter Cristina Hernandez Flanagan. He is survived by three daughters; Ana Maria Hernandez, Susana Hernandez McHale and her husband Brian, Margarita Luisa Rasmussen and her husband Steve, and his son-in-law, Dennis Flanagan; thirteen grandchildren, Todd Hardie, Nicole Erne, Heather Lescaille, Kelly McHale, Jillian Vukusich, Amanda Hardie, Patrick Flanagan, Cameron LeBlanc, Jordan Thomas, Rebecca Cinca, Brian McHale, Tyler Rasmussen and Alex McHale; nineteen great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Linda. His family was his pride and joy
