Julie Barbara Menezes, of Scarborough, Ontario passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022 in her 100th year. She loved & cared for her husband Edward William Menezes devotedly until he passed away in October 1990. Julie is survived by her beloved children, Joseph Menezes, Carol & Spouse Christopher D'Souza and Gerard Menezes. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Nina & Nathan, Andrew & Ayesha, Amit & Linda and Great Grand children Ryan & Aleah.
Julie came to live in Toronto in January 2003 and became a Canadian Citizen in 2007. Julie was a Math teacher and later a Homemaker. She loved to knit scarfs and sweaters, she also made beautiful palm crosses representing the five wounds of Jesus on the Cross. Julie sent a Palm Cross to Pope Francis and also one to Cardinal Thomas Collins, both of whom wrote back and acknowledged her amazing work of art. Julie has, on her own, made over 80,000 Rosaries by hand that were distributed to churches in rural communities in South India. She also made rosaries for prisoners at the Kingston Jail in Ontario until it was closed down. Julie loved to organize parties and picnics for her children and friends and loved to see the youngsters enjoy themselves. Julie was instrumental in contributing food and support to Orphanages and for the less privileged in our hometown of Mangalore, India. Julie played the Mandolin, Violin & the Piano and loved to sing.
A funeral service for Julie will be held on Friday, March 4th, 2022 at 10 am at St. Maria Goretti Church, located at 717 Kennedy Road, Scarborough, ON M1K 3N8. Burial is to follow at Christ the King Cemetery, located at 7770 Steeles Avenue East, Markham, ON L6B 1A8.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Houses at Providence (Unity Health) located at 3276 St. Clair Avenue, in Scarborough, ON.
A big 'Thank you' from Carol and Gerard to Julie's Care Team at Aspen House, Providence for the exceptional care, love and support during her stay from 2014 to 2022.
