I first met Allan in 1984 at an insurance conference in Toronto. It was our first meeting and we hit it off immediately
Our relationship flourished soon afterwards and I was lucky enough to get to know Joanie and all their family so very well - very special for me indeed
Since then Allan always kept me full informed on his families achievements and activities - and likewise me with my family . It was always a very pecial time together for both of us.
What a wonderful human being Allan was to all those he touched and we will all miss him greatly. Allan had a unique way of getting into your heart and was truly a wonderful role model to us all.
He had an in depth  understanding of most complex issues - whether personal or business but always respected both sides of the argument.
We have been very close friends for a very long time and I will always feel so grateful that I was lucky enough in my lifetime to meet someone so genuine, wise and loyal and who never expected much in return except to be honest with oneself.
God Bless you Allan - someday hopefully we will meet up again.

I wish I had words that were adequate enough to express the loss your family and friends will now feel. I want to thank you for always being the smiling face across the room. I knew that however long it had been since I had seen you, I'd be greeted with a hug and a kiss. I wish we could be there today to share in the love and joy of you, but our thoughts are with everyone there while they celebrate your life. We are thinking of your family and know that they will hang on to the image of your smile to get them through each day.

It’s really hard to find the right words right now - I have so many memories, and so many wonderful things to say about Uncle Allan - it’s hard to even know where to begin. While the world is full of kind, caring, welcoming, generous and loving people, Uncle Allan went as far beyond and surpassed those attributes as one possibly could. The way in which he treated his family - immediate and extended - and their families and friends is an example to everyone. When you were in Uncle Allan’s presence the love he felt for his family was evident, and when you were in his presence you also felt that love. I was lucky enough to be part of that extended family and have known his love and his attributes my entire life, but when my husband joined the family Uncle Allan went above and beyond to make him feel welcome and comfortable. It was actually Uncle Allan he was most comfortable with initially while he was still getting to know everyone else. 

Again there are so many things to say, but the most important to me is that Uncle Allan serves as reminder for the type of person I want to be - someone who proudly shows their love for others, someone who is kind and generous and is there anytime someone may need a favour or a helping hand. Someone who has such strong faith in God, and someone who treats others with as much love and compassion as they do to those closest to them. He was a wonderful man and I am so lucky I was able to have him in my life. 

I was fortunate enough to spend most Christmas Eve’s with him and the family and there was a tradition of singing the “12 Days of Christmas” with everyone singing the day that corresponded to their birth month. As the only other fellow November birthday, I will forever think of Uncle Allan when I hear “11 Pipers Piping” as that was our shared line. I love you Uncle Allan - thanks for everything. 


    It seems to me that a sizable chunk of my life has been cut off.  While Allen, in dying, has brought an end to the triad of “Men who Married Whitton Women”, a small group that  willingly adapted to the Whitton family’s  penchant for close knittedness,  he was much more than just  that!.  
    Allan was a true gentleman, always greeting  one with a smile and a joke or a story, and making the guest feel comfortable.  From personal experience I have found that he had the knack, too, of making the hopeless and depressed  feel good about themselves . He could always  find the good in a person and point it out to them (sometimes I really wondered if he was really talking about me .....but I felt good anyway!).
    Primarily, though, he was a family man.  His `darling` wife, Joan, and his children and grandchildren, were foremost in his thoughts..... constantly.  Seemingly everything he did had to pass the test:  How will this affect the family?  You can always find the worth of a person by observing  his family relationships, and in Al`s case the preponderant family trait was love for one another.
    And so my friend, we must thank you for being here and bid you adieu.  You`re one of a kind, Al, and we know there`ll never be another.


We were deeply saddened to hear of Allan's passing.  We know the love and respect he garnered from all who knew him, and the sense of humour he passed on to his children and grandchildren.  Rest well knowing you had a life well lived.  John E. and Cynthia McAllister

Allan, you will be sadly missed by both of us.  You have been in our lives for over 60 years.  You were always there whenever we needed you.  Always willing to offer your help..We could go on and on.   You were the best uncle to our children and our grandchildren.  There is so much to say about you, but it would take years to do that.  Allan you will always be in our hearts forever.  It was our pleasure to have known you.  Great man, father, friend,

Allan was a true gentleman and friend. From the first time I met him at Tam Heather Curling  and Tennis Club Allan always greeted me with his kind smile, welcoming gestures, and usually a little story. He will be greatly missed by all and especially me.  Affection known by Allan as "Davie" 


A very good friend who always made you welcome in his home and outside. He will be missed by my family.Kaleb told me he was like a grandfather to him and my daughter Kineta also. He was always interested in what they doing and how Kaleb was doing in school. 
Joan he is in the arms of Lord, no more pain and he will be watching over you. He is in the Lords house  (psalm 23) May God be with you all.  Lyris and family
