Mary Eileen Daly Morris passed away peacefully at home with family nearby on November 30, 2022. Mary was born in Springfield Massachusetts and was the daughter of Dennis Aloysius Daly and Helen O’Connell Daly. Mary grew up in Springfield with a very close knit family and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She attended The Elms College for a few years but left to help her parents and worked as a Lab Technician at Westinghouse. Mary loved her college courses and also loved her work at Westinghouse.
In 1947 Mary Eileen married the love of her life George Philip Morris and they had an unbelievable relationship for 68 years until George’s death in 2015. They were husband and wife and also the best of friends and were role models for extended family and friends.
Mary Eileen was always the one quietly behind the scenes helping George throughout his career at the Telephone Company as well as at The Family Pantry of Cape Cod. She believed that family was your first priority, but you also needed to care for those less fortunate.
Mary was a person of faith, and she prayed the rosary daily. She believed her faith was what let her live her life and be the person she was, kind, caring and always willing to help where she could.
She was the consummate homemaker and they moved three times for George’s career and she quickly turned each house into the home where all were welcome: their family and friends, then their children’s family and friends and then their grandchildren’s family and friends.
Mary leaves her son Stephen and his wife Karen Morris of Shrewsbury, MA and her daughter Mary “Beth” Anderson and her husband Robert of Harwich MA. Mary also leaves her grandchildren: Patricia Morris Berlack and her husband JT of Amherst NH, Thomas Morris and his fiancee Cathy Murphy of Newmarket, NH and South Boston, MA. Kristen Anderson Heller and her husband Chris of Holliston, MA and Daniel McCarthy and his wife Amanda Massello of Medford, MA and North Conway NH. Mary was also blessed with great grandchildren and leaves 5 great grandsons: Ian, Louis, and Carl Berlack of Amherst, NH and Anderson and Jackson Heller of Holliston, MA as well as 1 great granddaughter Aila McCarthy of Medford MA. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and she treasured them all.
In addition to her husband George, Mary was predeceased by her infant son Richard Morris and her siblings Helen Daly Roberts and her husband Bill, Rita Daly Metayer, Dennis Daly and his wife Betty and Joseph Daly and his wife Jeanette. She was also predeceased by her 3 brothers-in-law and their wives: Charles and Iline Morris, Andrew and Norma Morris and Thomas and Marion Morris and her son-in-law James McCarthy.
The family would like to thank the Harwich and Brewster Fire Departments for their assistance as Mary’s health declined. In additional to their medical skills they were always so kind and reassuring to both Mary and her family. The family also would like to thank the staff at the Woodlands Assisted Living where Mary lived for the past 4 years. They were incredibly gracious caretakers and truly became part of her family. The family can never thank them enough for keeping Mary safe and happy.
