John Nevin Citron of Harwich, Massachusetts, died peacefully with family at his side on November 22, 2023. He is survived by Ellen, his wife of 64 years, and his children, Jim of Lebanon, NH and Marjie of New York, NY.
John is remembered for his love of family, his kind, gentle and giving nature, his unassuming wisdom, and his ability to find humor in the everyday. A man of many interests, John was an opera lover, a bird watcher, an avid reader, and a word game aficionado who never missed an opportunity to stop to pet a dog.
Born in White Plains, NY in 1935 to Ruth (Greenwald) and Louis Citron, John became an Eagle Scout, demonstrating early on his commitment to service and community. After graduating from Scarsdale High School, he completed his undergraduate degree in government and MBA in finance at Dartmouth College, where he formed lifelong friendships and connections. He began his career as a Certified Public Accountant in New York City and later worked at several New York advertising agencies, at one point overseeing global financial operations in 17 countries.
In 1996, he and Ellen retired to Cape Cod where they volunteered for several community organizations. He remained an active Dartmouth alumnus, serving as Treasurer of the Dartmouth Club of Cape Cod into his 80’s. For many years he was also the Treasurer of Cape Abilities, an organization close to his heart, where he remained an active member of the board of directors until his death, a testament to his enduring commitment to helping others.
No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cape Abilities, www.capeabilities.org.
