William J. McCarthy, 74, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A private graveside service will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
William was born February 18, 1943 in Des Moines to Robert and Mollie (Selbach) McCarthy. He graduated from Dowling High School and went on to receive his Bachelor Degree from Drake University. For most of his career he was Vice President of Sales at A.A. Schneiderhahn. William was united in marriage on December 21, 1966 to Paulette, and together they raised three children. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and following the Yankees.
William is survived by his wife of 50 years, Paulette McCarthy of West Des Moines; children, Christie (Aaron Timmerman) McCarthy of Eden Prairie, MN, Patrick (Victoria) McCarthy of Adel, and Marnee McCarthy of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Nile and Megan Timmerman and Andrew McCarthy; sisters, Kathleen Simmons of Grosse Ile, MI, and Virginia Oltman of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert McCarthy; and brothers-in-law, Harry Simmons and John Oltman.
