Wendell Eugene Brown

Wendell Eugene Brown, 88, passed away September 6, 2023 at his home in West Des Moines surrounded by family. A memorial mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Wendell was born on December 30, 1934 in Seymour, IA to Tom and Grace (Margerum) Brown. He married Mary Kay Jacobson on May 7, 1960, and they had three children, Mark, Michael and Stephen. Wendell graduated from Newton High School in 1953 and later attended Drake University. He worked at 3E and retired 5 years ago at age of 83. Wendell was a long-time member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and Urbandale Golf and Country Club as well as Des Moines Golf and Country Club.

Left to cherish his memory include his sons, Mark (Jo) of West Des Moines, IA, Michael of West Des Moines, IA and Stephen of Coral Springs, FL. He treasured his five grandchildren, Emily (Skylar) Knickerbocker, Kirby (Hunter) Brown, Callie (Nolan) Lodden, Trevor (Nicole) Rhiner and Breanna Brown. He also had five great-grandchildren, Sophia and Sage Knickerbocker, Lane Brown, and Dean and Lucille Rhiner.

Wendell was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Kay; and parents, Tom and Grace Brown.

Memorial contributions may be made to UnityPoint Hospice-Taylor House in Des Moines or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
