Robert M. Feiden, 92, passed away Friday, August 26, 2022, at Cedar Ridge Village in West Des Moines. A visitation will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Iowa, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. A livestream is available on the church’s website. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Robert was born February 4, 1930 to Martin and Hazel (Bennett) Feiden in St. Joseph, Missouri. He graduated from Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids in 1948. Robert lettered in track and ran in the Drake Relays. He also loved playing sandlot baseball. Robert attended First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, where he was confirmed.
Robert attended the University of Iowa for two years and then transferred to Carthage College where he graduated, with honors, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, serving with the 45th Artillery Division in Korea during the Korean War. Upon his return, he attended the University of Iowa Law School and was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta professional fraternity.
Robert was employed by Iowa National Mutual Insurance Company until 1964. He then became owner of Feiden Insurance Agency, which he and his wife ran for over 30 years. Robert was President of the Iowa Association of Mutual Insurance Agents, received the Mr. Mutual Agent Award, the Safeco Insurance Companies Award of Excellence, and was on the Continental Western Agent Advisory Board. He was also a member of the Governor Harold Hughes FAIRPLAN committee to provide fair homeowner’s insurance to every citizen.
Robert married the love of his life, Janet E. Thoman, September 2, 1956. They had three daughters Kimberly, Linda, and Michelle. Over the years he enjoyed managing girls’ softball teams to four championships in five years with daughters on his teams. He cherished his beautiful marriage of 61 years and their vacation trips to Florida (especially Key West), California, Black Hills, Yellowstone, Chetek Wisconsin, Hawaii, and others.
Besides his family, his loves included fishing with family and friends at Chetek, watching baseball games, and reading EVERYTHING about the Civil War.
Robert is survived by his children, Kimberly (Jeffrey) Glandorf, Linda Feiden, Michelle (Randy) Gentile; grandchildren, Rachel, Jennifer, Myles, Maria, and Lauren; sister Nancy Newton, and nieces and nephews.
