Ralph Laverne Hull, 97, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2022 at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Attendees are requested to be masked against Covid while inside.
Ralph was born October 22, 1924 to Ralph Francis and Vera Beatrice (Morris) Hull in Burlington, Iowa, where he grew up and graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After the war and honorable discharge from the Army, Ralph worked at Economy Forms Corporation for over 40 years until his retirement, first as a draftsman, then as a pioneering user of computers at the company, and finally as a manager of a data processing group.
While roller-skating, Ralph met the love of his life, Dorothy Niendorf, whom he married and to whom he was a wonderful husband for 55 years, until Dorothy died. As part of his roller-skating, Ralph for a period was chief scorekeeper at the annual U.S. national competitions. He enjoyed model building, photography, and leatherworking. Ralph also enjoyed driving sports cars in autocross competitions, often with his late brother-in-law Carl Niendorf. For a time, he served as a volunteer at the Iowa Gold Star Military Museum in Johnston, Iowa.
Ralph is survived by his sister, Beverly Gallatin; son, John R. Hull of Sammamish, Washington; two grandchildren, Aron and Michael Hull; and five great grandchildren, Lillian, Delaney, Madeleine, Iain, and Satsuki Hull. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy.
Memorials can be directed to the American Nurses Foundation.
