Marvin F. Mowrey, 96, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at his home of congestive heart failure. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2024 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines with a visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
Marvin was born February 21, 1928 in Sac City, IA to Willard and Margaret (Christian) Mowrey. He graduated from Sac City High School and following graduation he enlisted and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. Marvin then came to Des Moines and attended American Institute of Business and while there he met his future wife, Ruth Krusenstjerna, on a blind date. To this union three sons were born, Greg, Brian, and Brad.
Marvin worked as a salesman for Gerber Baby Food. He always had a big garden where tomatoes and sweetcorn were his specialties. Marvin liked watching any kind of car race but his greatest love was being a dad and grandpa.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth; brother, Jim; sons, Brian and Brad (Meg); grandchildren, Jenna (Kyle), Scott (Alli), Adam and Violet; great-grandchildren, Liam, Beau, Milah and Reverie. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris; and son, Greg.
