Marie Catherine Kistenmacher, 91, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023. A visitation with the family will be Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Marie was born on December 12, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Catherine McGrath. She graduated from Hirsh High School and then worked as a secretary at the Illinois Central Railroad. It was through her job she met, courted, and then married Ed Kistenmacher on May 30, 1953. Marie and Ed had four children, Linda, Mark, Glenn, and Irene. Marie was a great cook and loved baking and collecting cookbooks. She also loved dancing and playing the organ.
Marie leaves behind her children, Linda, Mark (Terri), Glenn (Lori), and Irene (Dan); 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; parents, Joseph and Catherine McGrath; brothers, Joseph McGrath, James McGrath, and Bernard McGrath; and son-in-law, John Brubaker.
The family would like to thank Vintage Hills of Indianola for the care Marie received the last years of her life, especially in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1105 Grand Avenue, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265.
