John Romig, 66, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2020 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until service time at McLaren’s.
John William Romig was born to William and Ramona Romig on June 25, 1954. He graduated from Des Moines Roosevelt High School in 1972 and immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served for 6 years. John married Shelley Harris in 1974 and had 2 children, Bryan and Brandi. They later divorced.
John was a jack of all trades and master of none. He worked various IT support jobs and traveled quite frequently for his job. In 2019, he semi-retired and traveled around to Air Force Bases and assessed the electrical setup at each base. When he returned home, he began working at Lowe’s until his death.
John enjoyed golf, riding his motorcycle, a good cigar and glass of wine around a campfire, attending Jimmy Buffett concerts and traveling. As a member of Harley Owners Group, he enjoyed planning and leading rides over the years. John also loved attending his grandchildren’s events and spending time with family and friends. John will be remembered for many great qualities but mostly his easy laugh, welcoming hug, handshake and smile.
He is survived by his wife Brenda of nearly 25 years: two children, Brandi (Josh) Clark and Bryan (Kelly) Romig: five grandchildren, Blake Clark, Morgan Clark, Benjamin Romig, Alexander Romig and Emily Romig and brother-in-law Kevin Graff. John was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Linda McMahon.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a future designation.
