JoAnn Yvonne Erwood, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family February 3, 2017, after a brief illness. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines with a private family burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Jodi was born April 17, 1928, in Des Moines to Harold and Hazel Clements. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1946. Jodi then attended Iowa State University for one year before earning her undergraduate degree in English and Master’s in Biology from Drake University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Jodi was an educator and taught in the Des Moines Public School system for many years before she retired to raise her family.
Jodi is survived by her husband of 64 years, Sheldon C. Erwood; sons, Brent C. Erwood (Susan) of Leawood, Kansas and Gregg A. Erwood (Janelle) of Clive, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Patti Erwood of Atlanta, Georgia; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Scott C. Erwood.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines or a charity of the donor’s choice.
