Janice Glenn, 91, (ne' Nordaker) died Dec 16, 2024 at the Catholic Care Home in Wichita, KS. A memorial mass will be held Friday, January 3, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines, Iowa. A one-hour visitation will be held prior to the mass.
Jan, as she was known to her friends and family, was born April 30, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa, where she lived her entire life, growing up on the East side and moving to WDM in the early '70s with her family.
She was a devout Catholic who volunteered regularly at her church, Sacred Heart, and at St. Vincent de Paul.
A world traveler, Jan taught preschool and kindergarten for over 3 decades. She was a devoted mom and was exceptionally close to her identical twin sister, Joanne, who passed away in 2023. Janice attended all the graduations of her 8 grandchildren, who are scattered across the country. She was an avid tennis fan and player.
She loved family events such as birthdays and holidays and went out of her way, along with Joanne and her husband Bob and her brother, Vance and his wife Donna, to make sure everyone had a good time. She and her best friend, Jeanne VerSteeg, arranged summer vacations for the families to see top US sights.
Janice enjoyed a robust social life, playing in multiple bridge clubs, attending East High School reunions, as well as events involving her ISU sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta. In later years, she joined the Daughters of Norway, where she served as an officer and fantastic baker for their fundraisers.
Janice is survived by her children: Michael (Ana), Marla, and Maribeth (Neil), 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Her husband, Richard Glenn, died in 1994.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601).
