James Carl Woodson, 74, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
James was born September 28, 1943 in Wichita, KS to Frank and Georgia (Bolhing) Woodson. He graduated from South High School in Wichita, KS in 1962. James was a U.S. Navy Veteran during the Vietnam War. He married Jean Louise Rhodes on November 1, 1968 in Ames, IA. James was a Carpenter Foreman for 38 years for EBY Construction. He was a member of Destiny Bible Church in Indianola, IA, Word of Life Church in Wichita, and the American Legion. James enjoyed woodworking, gardening and restoring his 1938 Ford flatbed truck.
James is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean Woodson of Altoona; daughter, Cathy Vanderlinden of Carlisle; son, Larry (Amy) Nigh of Melrose; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Lois (Pete) Chaves of Wichita, KS; Frank (Deby) Woodson of Derby, KS; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Woodson; mother, Georgia (Harvey) Ruhl; sister, Marilyn (Bub) Griffith; daughters, Lori Hinton and Sherri Thornton; and great-grandchild, Bryce Draisey.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 at McLaren’s Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to Destiny Bible Church in Indianola.
