James Joseph Collins, 76, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston after a long battle with cancer.
James, known by his friends as Jimmy, was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. He graduated from Tech High School and was a retired switchman with Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Jimmy was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and he enjoyed swimming, camping, Friday night pizza, cruising in his little red Miata, and spending time with his three favorite girls and a huge circle of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; brother, Mike Richter; and parents, Vincent and Maxine Richter. Survivors include his daughter, Jamie Evans, and granddaughters, Shaina and Miranda Evans, all of Des Moines.
His body has been cremated and visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 23, 2011 at McLarens Chapel in West Des Moines. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday at Resthaven Cemetery.
