D. June Mauk, 94, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2022 at McLaren’s with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
June was born in Fort Dodge, IA on March 5, 1928 to Clarence Reynold and Hazel Elaine Gilbert. June graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1946 and from the Lutheran School of Nursing in Des Moines, IA in 1949. After a few years in the medical world, she met and married Robert G. “Bob” Mauk. Together, they raised five children. Once the children were in school, June returned to the medical world. In 1970, she began working at Lifeserve of Iowa (formerly The Blood Center of Central Iowa). After a 40 year career at Lifeserve, she retired in 2010.
June was very active at her church, Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines, she was responsible for the communion elements and participated in the medical free clinic. During the holidays, June was known for her pumpkin bread, deviled eggs and chili.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Bob and her parents. She is survived by her five children, Greg (Karol) Mauk, Janet (Ed) Mount, Rick (Linda) Mauk, Linda (Jeff) Ray and Trish (Daryl) Lilly; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren (with two on the way).
