Charlene J. Smith, 66, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center following a short but courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Lutheran Church of Hope with inurnment of cremated remains at a later date at Resthaven Cemetery.
Charlene was born on October 2, 1943 in San Jose, CA the daughter of Charles and Eilene (Lane) Peterson. She graduated from Osage High School and was a secretary at Stillwell Elementary School until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband Dave of Johnston; two daughters, Julie (Chris) Dunham of Johnston and Heather (Marc) Goeders of Clive; three grandchildren, Noah and Benny Goeders and Amara Dunham; one sister, Cheryl (Robert) Mueller of Mesa, AZ and their daughter, Lane Polito; and several other nieces and nephews. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Monday at the Lutheran Church of Hope Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the John Stoddard Cancer Center.
