A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 June 20th 2020 at McLaren’s Chapel, Resthaven Cemetery, 801 – 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa.
She was born November 26, 1924 to Lex and Gladys (Noel) Raber and grew up with her six sisters and three brothers on a farm Northeast of Winterset. Betty graduated from De Soto High School in 1942. She married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Golightly, in 1944. They farmed west of De Soto until his death from Leukemia in 1962.
Betty opened her beauty shop in De Soto in 1961 called “Betty’s Beauty Shop”. She later moved to Des Moines to work as the coordinator at Miller Beauty Supply. Betty retired in 1990 and moved back to Winterset in 2013.
She was a hospice volunteer for nine years, giving many permanents for the terminally ill, and was Red Cross nurse’s aide during WW2.
Betty is survived by her son, Michael (Rhonda) Golightly, daughter, Tricia (Mark) Hirsch; grandchildren, Ann (Toby) Jayne, Tate Golightly, Courtney (Corey) Bausch, Jason Hirsch, Heather (Dan) Konevitch Marty (Micaela) Hirsch; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Geneva Partridge; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters, and three brothers.
