Our angel has earned her wings! Delia S. Torres joined God's angels in heaven on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the age of 69. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at the Valley Grande Manor in Weslaco, Texas. Delia was born on January 7, 1954 in Sandusky, Ohio to Jose and Anna Maria Sanchez. She attended Mercedes ISD and graduated from Mercedes High School with the Class of 1972. She went to Durham Business College and received her degree in Clerical Administration. Delia began her career working for the Texas Department of Human Resources and retired after woking 39 years with the state. Delia married her true love George Torres Sr. on January 18, 1987. Delia is preceded in death by her father Jose Sanchez, her maternal grandparents Daniel and Tomasa Salinas, her paternal grandparents Dionicio and Agustina Sanchez, countless aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, George Torres Sr., her daughter Leonor Torres and her three sons George Torres Jr., Juan Angel Torres and Jacob Torres. Delia had 9 grandchildren, George Tamez, Ruben Fabian Luna, Alfredo Luna III, Juan Angel Torres Jr., Destiny Elaine Torres, Elvis Achilles Torres, Brandon Villarreal, Marcelo Kal-el Torres, Jacob Torres Jr. and 7 great grandchildren Achilles Quinn Tamez, Mia Rose Tamez, Demi Reign Tamez, Atreus Kage Tamez, Phoenix Wayne Tamez, Luciana Jade Tamez, Presley James Tamez. Delia is also survived by her mother Anna Maria Sanchez of Mercedes and her three sisters, Esther (Rene) Peynado, Irma (Albert) Agueros and Minerva (Roberto) Durán along with 4 nieces Amanda Agueros, Annalisa Agueros, Adelina Agueros and Sophia Peynado and 10 nephews Rene Peynado II, David Peynado, Robert Duran Jr., Joey Duran, Tommy Duran, Rene Peynado III, Andrew Peynado, Miles Peynado, Lucas Peynado and Elliott Duran. Delia had a love of music! She was a member of the Mercedes Tiger Band 1969-1972. She played the bass clarinet, the flute and the guitar. Her second love was dancing. She taught tejano, kicker and even belly dancing. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She was a loving, kind and compassionate soul and could light up a room with her smile. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved unconditionally and without measure. Delia will be missed dearly and remembered for eternity because she was our angel on earth and now she is our guardian angel above. Rest in peace sweet lady. We love you! A visitation for Delia will be held Sunday, February 26, 2023 starting at 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Highland, 6705 North Fm 88, Weslaco, Texas 78596. Visitation will continue Monday, February 27, 2023 from 11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Weslaco, Texas 78596.
