Born in Jennings, Louisiana to parents Nina Carter Shipp and Earl Dee Shipp Jr. on September 26, 1948, James "Jimmy" Lee Shipp grew up in Welsh, Louisiana for all of his life. He graduated from Welsh High School, and went on to serve in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Jimmy was promoted to Sargent before being discharged with honors. He worked at E.D. Shipp, Jr. & Sons, and then later became manager at Thornwell Warehouse before retiring.
Jimmy enjoyed being outdoors, often going fishing and camping with his wife Glenda "Bug" Shipp. He also loved barbecuing, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the VFW for years and the First United Methodist Church of Welsh.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard Shipp.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda "Bug" Shipp; his daughter, Theresa Shipp Clement and husband Chad; brother, Earl Shipp III and wife Lynn; sisters, Sue Shipp Carrington, and Linda Shipp LeBlanc and husband Mike; and grandchildren Charlie and Maile Clement.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Hixson Funeral Home of Welsh and will resume at 8:00 am until the time of service at 10:00 am on Monday, April 3, 2023. Burial will be immediately following at Oaklawn Cemetery.
