On Thursday, February 7, Betty Jean Fear, passed from peaceful sleep with her family present to the presence of her Lord and Savior.
Betty Jean Ogilvie was born in Coushatta, LA on January 3, 1928 to Oscar and Beth Ogilvie. She graduated from Coushatta High School, where she was a cheerleader and honor student, in 1944. She attended Brenau College in Gainesville. In1948 she graduated from LSU, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and Alpha Beta Chi honorary business fraternity. In 1948 she married Truman John Fear Jr., whom she had met at LSU.
She worked for several years as secretary at First Methodist Church in Welsh and as bookkeeper at Fear Lumber Co.
She was very active in the First Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees and various committees. At various times, she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was instrumental in organizing nondenominational neighborhood prayer groups in the seventies. She was also active in Women's Research Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Truman J. Fear, Jr. She is survived by her five children; Marian Dameier (Brian) of Greenville, SC; Hope Shaw (Billy) of Coushatta, LA; Jay Fear (Teri) of Welsh. LA; Randy Fear (Laurie) of Welsh, LA; and Jeannie Quirk (Leo) of Moss Bluff, LA. Her pallbearers are grandsons Stuart Shaw of Coushatta, LA; Brooks Dameier of Omaha, NE; Beau Dameier of Atlanta, GA; Drew Fear of Dallas, TX; John Fear of Houston, TX; Win Fear of Welsh, LA. Granddaughters are Hope Taylor of Greenville, SC; Lacy Pfaff of Jacksonville, FL; and Shelby Quirk of Moss Bluff, LA. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren
Her funeral will be 2pm, Saturday, February 9, 2013 at First United Methodist Church of Welsh. Visitation will begin Friday 5pm-8pm at the Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
