The world lost a beloved mother, Amy Babineaux Sonnier, 94, died Thursday, October 20, 2022, in a local care facility.
Amy was born in Richard Community on October 21, 1927 to Annie Sonnier Babineaux and Sidney Babineaux.
A resident of Sulphur the last years of her life she made Welsh her home with her husband of 68 years, Pierre Sonnier who she married on October 20, 1946.
After moving to Welsh, she began working for the local telephone company Century Tel and remained there until her retirement. Together they raised four children, Peggy Saucier (Robert) of Sulphur, Mildred Johns (Kenneth, deceased) of Sulphur, Pat Sonnier (Kimberly) of Hathaway and Stephen Sonnier of Roanoke. They had nine grandchildren, Lisa Saucier McCaig (Jason), Mandeville, Scott Saucier (Melissa), Sulphur, Brandon Saucier (Adrienne), Sulphur, Elina Sonnier, Natchitoches, Gabriel Sonnier, Natchitoches, Hannah Sonnier, Lake Charles, William Sonnier, Hathaway, Adeline Sonnier, Crowley, Isabell Sonnier, Crowley, four great grandchildren, Jackson Saucier, Moss Bluff, Donnie Saucier, Sulphur, Alyssa Saucier, Sulphur and Charles Pierre, Sulphur. Also leaving a brother Sidney Babineaux, Jr, Eunice and sister Ella Hale of San Antonio, TX who are all left to cherish her sweet memories.
She is preceded in death by her husband Pierre Sonnier, Parents Annie and Sidney Babineaux, brother Jeffery Babineaux, sisters Elda Richard, Mary Broussard and Loretta Godeaux and son-in-law, Kenneth Johns.
Pallbearers will be Jason McCaig, Scott Saucier, Brandon Saucier, Gabriel Sonnier, William Sonnier and Jackson Saucier.
Visitation at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh will be on Monday, October 24, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM led by the Catholic Daughters. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Welsh with Father Susil Fernando officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at the Welsh Community Center at 101 Palmer Street, following the funeral services.
