Jean was a colleague in the School of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts. She was a  graduate of Yale University and very creative in her ideas for improving the learning experiences of students. An important innovation was the development of a learning laboratory.Her skills and ingenuity extended to other areas of her life and she was a great "problem solver" and designer. Mostly I knew Jean as a friend  who was always hospitable and entertaining when there was a chance to visit. She enjoyed being on Cape Cod, in California (where she grew up) and in Hawaii...always near the water and the beach. Visiting her and Betsy Clarke was always a pleasure and I will always remember Jean's tender and attentive care as Betsy's  health declined. She was a strong woman of many talents and interests...a life well-lived.

Jean was a member of the faculty at the College of Nursing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.  It’s that time, she was instrumental in designing  a learning laboratory for students. It was at UMass that I met her and over the years had the pleasure of visiting her and Betsy. ..especially when they lived “on the Cape”
 Jean was a very interesting and  creative  person and it was always enjoyable to be in her company.
It is sad to know of her passing and  will remember her as a very intelligent, creative and caring person.

I've known and enjoyed learning from Jean since first meeting her in the 1970s at UMass/Amherst.  Lots of visits with Jean and Betsy over the years since then,,.in SC, CA, HI and back to MA.  Jean was so interesting, not afraid to tackle anything (like designing and overseeing a total redesign of their home in Orleans to accommodate Betsy's needs).  She loved swimming in the oceans wherever she lived and used ocean access as one of the criteria for deciding where to live!  Conversations with Jean were always interesting and wide-ranging in scope.  I am so sorry to learn of Jean's passing,..hers was a long, well-lived life. I am a better person because of knowing Jean.  May she rest in peace now.
