David was born in 1934 in Manchester, NH to parents Leon and Edith Foster and was the second to youngest of six siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife Margaret Foster (Rich). They were married for 67 years. Also, he’s survived by his children Debra Souza (Foster) and her husband Craig, David Foster Jr. and his wife Stacy, and Douglas Foster and his wife Christy.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Michael Souza and his wife Cheryl, David Foster III, Ryan Foster and his wife Jillian, Sarah Wardlaw, Claire Wardlaw and Gabrielle Foster as well as his great-grandchildren Michael, Ella and Violet Souza and Graysen and Easton Foster.
David was one of six children and is predeceased by his brother Richard Foster, sisters Virginia Furbish, Marion Furbish, and Barbara Calhoon. He is survived by his brother Ronald Foster and his wife Kathie, Brother-In-Law Fred Rich, and many nieces and nephews.
David started his service career in the United States Air Force, from Miami Florida on April 9, 1953. His first assignment was at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas for basic training until July 5th, and then was assigned to Keesler AFB, MS for radar operations training until September 3rd.
His first duty assignment as a radar operations technician was at North Truro AFB, in Massachusetts. He left there in August 1954 for an assignment at Ramore, Ontario, Canada as a radar operations technician. It being a controlled one year tour, he asked for and again returned to North Truro in August 1955. During this tour David met and married Margaret in February of 1957. He also re-enlisted for four years with a rank of Staff Sergeant.
In May 1958, he was reassigned to a computerized radar operation as an Intercept Technician at McGuire AFB, NJ. He served in that capacity until September 1961 and then was reassigned to Hopedale, Labrador as a crew chief of a radar operations crew. It also being a one year controlled tour, he was reassigned to a mobile radar unit at Roswell, New Mexico in September of 1962.
In June of 1963, he was reassigned to Opheim AFB, Montana as the NCOIC of Radar Operations with the rank of Master Sergeant and served there until June1965 when he again was reassigned to North Truro AFB.
In May 1967, he was assigned to the Republic of Vietnam and assigned to radar operations at “Monkey Mountain”, which was just outside of Danang Airfield and served there for one year as its NCOIC.
In May 1968, he was reassigned to the 74th Tactical Control Flight, Myrtle Beach AFB, South Carolina (a mobile radar unit) and was stationed there for 9 months when the unit was transferred to Pope AFB, North Carolina until his retirement in June 1973 at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.
His decorations include the Bronze Star, Outstanding Unit Award with “V” device, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak-leaf cluster, Army Good Conduct and Air Force Good Conduct Medals and Vietnam Service Awards.
He retired in 1973 and he and his wife made their residence in Provincetown until they built their present home in North Truro.
After the Air Force, David worked at Benson Young & Downs Insurance Agency for 25 years.
He was a member of the Provincetown United Methodist Church serving on many committees throughout the years and singing in the Church Choir. He was past President of the Provincetown Rotary Club, Former Member of Truro Board of Assessors, and a member of the VFW and American Legion.
David loved spending time with his family and was always a supportive, kind, and loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love and strong faith was a blessing to all who knew him. He will be forever missed by them all.
