Lt. Cmdr. William Patrick "Pat" Egan was born January 20, 1931 in Houston, Texas. He was killed in action April 29, 1966 after lauching from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Hancock as the lead aircraft on a bombing mission over Khammouan Province, Laos while serving in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a 1948 graduate of Arlington Heights High School, attended Austin College in Arlington, Texas on a football scholarship to earn a BS in Mathematics then graduated from United States Naval Post Graduate School with a BS in Aeronautical Engineering. His remains were recovered on December 22, 2009 and identified on February 11, 2011.
