Nita (Medlin) Upton of Pearland went to be with her Lord at the age of 77 on October 10, 2010. She was born August 10 1933 in Cordell, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her father, Charlie Medlin, mother, Beulah Medlin, brother, Billy Medlin and daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Upton. She is survived by her sons, Steve Upton and wife Karen of Santa Fe, Texas and Brett Upton of Friendswood, Texas; grandchildren, Jerod Upton, Kayla Upton, Kyle Upton and Sadie Upton; brothers, Chuck Medlin and wife Pat and Dale Medlin of Pearland, Texas; sister-in-law, Walena Medlin of Pasadena, Texas; niece, Tina Chatham and Tammy Medlin; nephew, Kevin Medlin and wife Dee; and great niece, Denise Chatham.
Nita grew up in Cordell, Oklahoma. As a young woman Nita was baptized in Spring Lake at church camp for 4th and College Church of Christ. She excelled in basketball, playing on the Blue Devil team that was runner-up in the state tournament in 1950. Nita graduated from Cordell High in 1951. She married Melvin Elbert Upton in Cordell, Oklahoma on June 6, 1953. While still in Cordell, she worked as the Credit Manager for Washita County Credit Bureau and as the Office Administrator for Dr. Gordon Livingston. Nita spent numerous years being self employed in the field of interior decorating/ design with lifelong friend, Wanda McDaugale. In 1973, she, her mother, and her sons moved to Pearland, Texas. Nita worked for many years as a Credit Manager for General Electric Credit Corporation before retiring from Forest Park Cemetery after 15+ years of dedicated service to spend more time with her family and friends. She was a giving and loving Christian and always found the good in everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and communicating with her many friends and high school classmates. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Forest Park East, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., with burial at Lawnview Cemetery, Cordell, Oklahoma.
