Maria del Carmen Mendez, 80, of Houston, TX passed away on November 29, 2024. She was born in Havana, Cuba on October 28, 1944, to Manuel and Angela Gomez. She was married to Rafael Mendez for 59 years.
Maria loved to travel to Spain with her husband to see Zarzuelas. They traveled all over the world, going on cruises and enjoying a theater production.
But what she loved more than traveling was her grandchildren. They were her world. She would visit them wherever they lived and whenever she got the chance. Maria loved her grandchildren so much that she has kept their school programs and their artwork over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Maria is survived by loving husband Rafael Mendez; daughter Angela Holcomb and her husband Brad; son Rafael Mendez and his wife Jennifer; daughter Marta Haile and her husband Landy; grandchildren Bryan Holcomb, Andrew Holcomb, Daniel Holcomb, Cristina Mendez, Kyle Holcomb, Alicia Mendez, Michael Haile, Ethan Haile, and Emma Haile.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster, TX on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm with a rosary at 6:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Houston, TX on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 10:30 am.
