Marcy Lee Jennings Porter, 95, resident of Friendswood, TX, passed away on 8/26/2022. Marcy was born on April 8th, 1927 in Springfield, Illinois. She was the only child of John and Marcella Jennings. She was a self-proclaimed “Daddy’s Girl” and was the apple of his eye. Marcy did well in school and was considered kind, popular and fun-loving. Growing up and living in Springfield as a long-time resident gave her family the chance to meet many classmates who described her in those terms.
Marcy was fortunate to have traveled all over the world. She and Dave were members of the Marine Bank Travel Club, a group where trips were arranged and they often enjoyed the company of many traveling buddies. Alaska, Hawaii, England, New Zealand and Australia were some of their favorite trips. In addition to group travel, Marcy and Dave were fortunate to own a private plane and traveled extensively in the United States, flying in to airports large and small. Marcy got a little bored with being “just a copilot” so she signed up for lessons and became a licensed pilot, herself. She served as a great example of having a “can do” spirit!
Marcy loved her job as the Medical Assistant/Practice Manager for Dr. Edward Kwedar, an Ophthalmic Surgeon. She and Dr. Kwedar were more than co-workers, they were family. She worked for him for 25 years and retired when he sold his practice to SIU School of Medicine. He called her a few months later and begged her to come back to work (which she did) as “these new people don’t know how to do things the way I like!”. The Porter and Kwedar families remained good friends and Marcy and Dave often spoke with the Kwedars after moving to Texas.
Marcy loved cooking, entertaining, traveling and being with her family. She was very involved in the Lutheran Church and served as a Volunteer for many activities and charities. Marcy and Dave had a basement “Rec Room” that hosted many parties for their Church friends and their Flying Group. If you attended a party there – your ears would ring the next day from all the laughter! She had a little dog (a miniature Schnauzer) named “Lady Tara” that she loved very much and doted on, Tara would perform tricks to make her smile!
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband David Ward Porter. He passed away in July of 2019. They were married for 72 years. They met in the Church Choir and were married when Dave returned from serving in the Army during World War Two. They built a home, a family and a good life together.
She is survived by her son, Mark Alan Porter and his wife Gay Porter. Her daughter, Camela Lea Porter Rose and her husband Tony. Her granddaughters, Callasandra (Callie) Lucia Rose and her husband John Alex Ladysh and Caressa Antonia (Annie) Rose. She is also survived by her Great Grandson, Connor Rose Ladysh who provided her with great joy in this last year of her life. Her first question any time we walked in was “How is Connor?” She was thrilled with his “first year firsts” and truly enjoyed being able to spend time with him.
A visitation for Marcy will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598.
