Mr. Kenneth Eugene Young, age 90, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 surrounded by family and friends at his home in Friendswood, Texas. He was born March 17, 1931, in Chanute, Kansas, to Leo and Bessie (Speck) Young.
He served the US Air Force as a Staff Sergeant and was granted top secret clearance as the Chief Clerk of the Eastern Air Defense Sector in New York. He had an admirable work ethic and climbed the ladder during his career at the Houston Lighting and Power Company. He began as a mechanic helper in 1952 and retired in 1987 as operations manager in charge of generating electricity and all equipment for one of the largest power plants in the country. His plant was always in the top 3 for safety in the country. He loved cars (and kept them immaculate), gardening (he grew many plants & enjoyed having plant sales), poker (loved going to casinos & playing the machines as well as playing real cards), sports (coached teams when he was younger & loved to watch the Astros, Texans & Rockets), animals (strays knew how to find Ken & he took them in) and his family dearly (he sacrificed so much for his family's comfort). He enjoyed telling funny stories from his life and always made sure that those he loved had everything they needed. Kenneth was funny, generous, caring and will be greatly missed.
Kenny is survived by son Doug and wife Cathy; daughter Kathy; granddaughter Julie Garrett and great-grandson Luke; granddaughter Brooke Vredenburg and husband Tom; and brother Richard and his wife Carol. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; brother Jerry; and sister Bessie Lee.
