It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleene Bradley on September 28, 2024, at the age of 82. Kathy was born on November 21, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas to Clifton I. Moore and Chrysteene Moore (nee Lutz).
Kathy grew up in Ft. Worth, Texas and loved spending summers in Flatonia at her grandparents’ farm. She graduated from Birdville High School in 1959, married Scott Riggs in 1963 and enjoyed living in Hawaii for several years and working for a local bank.
Upon returning to Texas, she worked for Texas International Airlines (which was absorbed into Continental airlines) and worked nights in the Data Publications department. She welcomed daughter Tiffany in 1967 and lived in the newly developed town of Friendswood.
In 1974, Kathy was single and working for Losco Construction when she met the man who would change her world, Spurlin Lee Bradley, III. They married in 1975, and the adventures started immediately! From riding Harley’s, operating Steve’s Tubes on the Guadalupe River, skiing in Colorado, camping all over, and seeing all that the country could offer. She would say that “nothing beats a view from the back of a bike!”.
Kathy went on to work for Dr. James Fairleigh, DDS Orthodontics in Friendswood and ultimately joined UTMB in Galveston as the Administrative Assistant to the head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department, where she enjoyed over 25 years of service. She thought of herself as the “Mom” to all the residents who came through the program and developed many long-lasting friendships.
As soon as she retired from UTMB in 2008, she and S.L. managed a 2800-acre ranch in Batesville, Texas where they worked cattle and deer, a tree farm, and maintained several lodges on the property. It was a lot of work, especially in the hot Texas summers, but she really did enjoy her time there.
Kathy and S.L. returned to League City in 2013, and shortly thereafter bought property in Coleman, Texas and started developing their getaway home. She really loved having a place of their own out in the country and to be back on a ranch.
Kathy is survived by her husband Spurlin Lee Bradley III, daughter Tiffany Lauer, son-in-law Rich and grandson Wesley (fiancée Ana) along with several loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, stepsisters, nieces, nephews and sweet cousin Claudia Grisham (nee Moore). She is preceded in death by her parents, and her baby granddaughter, Celestine.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Houston Humane Society, or any animal charity of your choice. She rescued more cats than she could count and in recent years became a loving dog owner, with Dolly being by her side daily.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 28, at 10am under the direction of Forest Park East, 21620 Gulf Frwy, Webster, Texas 77598 with a reception to follow.
