Bert was born on October 18, 1943, in Houston, Texas to John Inge and Mary Louise Dahl. He was raised in Freeport, Texas. During his youth, Bert cherished the times spent visiting his grandparents in nearby Bacliff, Texas.
Bert devoted his long career to the petrochemical industry spanning the Texas Gulf Coast, first at Lubrizol Corporation in Deer Park, Texas before joining his father to manage the family business, Dahl and Company. Bert was a longstanding member of Texas City Kiwanis Club, where he forged many great friendships that lasted throughout his life.
Those closest to Bert know that his character was marked by a passion for life driven by his love of family. On January 19, 1987, Bert married the love of his life, Cindy. He was a fiercely loyal husband throughout their thirty-seven-year marriage. He was dedicated in the support of his children, and later his grandchildren, always attending events such as tennis matches, softball games, golf tournaments, FFA showings, and band recitals. Bert also loved the Astros and his furry friends Brenna and Molly Dahl. Bert developed a large network of friends over his life, whom he loved deeply and was loved in return.
Bert possessed a brand of humor uniquely his own which could only be described as a lion-like wit, with punch lines that could be delivered in the form of a roaring blow, sneaking subtlety, or often a hysterical combination of the two. No matter the subject of his quips, or method of delivery, Bert’s laughter was assured (at his expense or yours) and each time accompanied by a cheek-drawing smile that seared an impression of his character in the minds of his family and friends. He is greatly missed.
Preceding Bert in death are his father, John, and mother, Mary. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, son Robert Dahl and fiancé Anne Casella, son Raymond Dahl and wife Suly Piñales, daughter Tara Dahl-Campbell and husband Jay, son Ryan Dahl and wife, Jayna; grandchildren Kallie Dahl, Ethan Dahl, Jake Dahl, Jayne Campbell, John “Jack” Campbell, Arie Dahl, and Leo Dahl; sisters Ludina Jaster and Sherrie Lynn Harrell; brother Rickey Dahl and wife Melissa; and his nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers are Gilbert Trevino, David Vasichko, Phil Roberts, Greg Chapa, Moe Wisdom, and Ronnie Oliver. The family extends special thanks to Pat Glenn for loyal care over the years.
A visitation for Bert Dahl will be held at Forest Park East in Webster, Texas on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM.
In recognition of the excellent care Bert received in his final days at Resolute Baptist Hospital in New Braunfels, Texas, memorial donations to the Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio, 750 E. Mulberry Ave Ste 325, San Antonio, TX 78212, are greatly appreciated.
