Galand Hoyt was born, January 3, 1932, in Graham, MO. He grew up on various farms around northwest Missouri. He graduated in 1950, from Union Stan High School in Guilford, MO. Beginning in 1951, Galand made a career of the US Navy. He did one tour of Korea and two tours in Vietnam, before retiring in 1970, as a Chief Petty Officer, Radar man. Galand made Friendswood, TX his home. He worked for another 24 years as a carpenter for E.I. DuPont, retiring in 1994. In retirement, he enjoyed his grandchildren, then later, great-grandchildren, fishing, camping, and working with the volunteer Christian Builders (VCB).
Galand Hoyt was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Bonnie Hoyt, parents Albert and Jenny Hoyt, sisters Gladys Cornell, Norma Thompson, Edith Kidney, Winona Burchett and brothers Harold Hoyt, Kenneth Hoyt, Dale Hoyt, Gerald Hoyt, and Dwight Hoyt.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years Leta Hoyt of St. Joseph MO, Son Steve Desrochers and wife Elena of Goldsboro N.C., daughter Candace Johnson and husband Jay of Friendswood TX, son Courtney Hoyt and wife Kim of Dickinson TX, step-son Randy Hoyt and wife Pam of St. Joseph MO, step-son Ron Hoyt and wife Marie of St. Joseph MO and multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
