On October 26, 1935, a bouncing baby boy was born to the union of Howard N. Morris Sr. and Amy Lou Brown Morris in Houston, Texas. Fred Morris was the third of eight children. He was educated at Trinity Garden Elementary School, E.O. Smith Jr. High School and Phillis Wheatley High School in the Houston Independent School District.
Fred accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Albert Campbell. He later joined New Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Joe Culton. He also joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Kennedy. His final church home was New Life Church of Texas under the leadership of Rev. Andrew W. Berry II. Fred was active in the Men’s Chorus and Brotherhood until his illness.
Fred married Doris Clemons and to this union five children were born. He later met and married Helen Glover and two children were born.
Fred worked as a Longshoreman for many years and retired in 1987.
Fred is preceded in death by his father, Howard N. Morris Sr.; mother, Amy Lou Curvey; sister, Ada Lewis; brothers, Howard Morris Jr., Joseph Leon Morris, Robert Charles Morris and Jake Morris; daughter, Casandra Morris and son, Garry Morris.
Fred leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years, Helen Morris; brothers, Rev. John Morris, Rev. Kenneth Morris; sons, Fred Morris Jr., Anthony Morris, Timothy Morris (Kim), Keith Morris (Mireyea); daughters, Linda Lewis (Joe) and Sheriva Hughes; a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.
A visitation for Fred will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and a funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 21620 Gulf Freeway in Webster, Texas. Dinner will follow the funeral service at Cullen Missionary Baptist Church, located at 13233 Cullen Blvd in Houston, Texas. A graveside service will occur Monday, September 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Houston Memorial Gardens, located at 2426 Cullen Blvd in Pearland, Texas.
