Part 1:

I'd like to share some cherished memories I have of my grandpa. To me, he always exuded a quiet and reserved demeanor. Yet, within that quietude, there was a comfortable silence that spoke volumes. We would exchange updates on the Astros or other sports teams, and he often shared tidbits he read in the paper, including jokes from the funnies, or simply how our day went. But what stands out most to me are his presence and actions.
From my early school years through high school, he was a constant presence. When I started kindergarten, while other kids had their moms walking them to class, my parents worked, so I turned to him. He graciously agreed, drawing the line at starting in the gym with all the other students, instead waiting for me in one of the halls to walk me the rest of the way. It's still a mystery how I convinced him to do this for me, but I'm grateful for those moments.
He was always there whenever I needed him, whether it was bringing me lunch, my backpack, or my sports uniform countless times. There were even  times when he would drop us off early at school, giving us five dollars to enjoy chocolate milk and cinnamon rolls before classes. And when report cards came around, he made it a tradition to treat us all to Ryan's, which became something we eagerly anticipated.

Part 2:

In my highschool years he would drive me every morning to Incarnate Word and pick me up afterward to head over to St. Thomas. While the rides to school were quiet, the trips to St. Thomas were lively. I remember once asking him to bring me a cup of coffee at pick-up because I was particularly tired and heading to a football game. From that day forward, he would wait with coffee and tacos or snacks from my grandma.
I had friends who would envy my "Da," someone who would say yes to most of my requests, let me blast music, and sing along with three other crazy girls in the car, all while he sat there quietly. He never got upset or said anything; he just quietly attended countless functions throughout my life. 
Years from now, I might not recall the conversations we had or didn't have, but I will always remember how he was there for me, making me feel special and loved, without ever needing to say a word.
