At the age of seven (after the passing of her mother) Eleanor moved to Birmingham, Alabama where she graduated from Holy Family Catholic High School in 1955. She was a devout Catholic.
Eleanor attended Xavier University of New Orleans where she met and wed William Newman in 1956. She relocated to Los Angeles, CA in 1959. From this union she had five children: Deirdre, Anthony, Patrick, Adrienne and Stephen.
Eleanor met and married the love of her life, Robert Caldwell, Jr. in December, 1975. Eleanor and Robert travelled with the Marine Corps to Hawaii and then retired in Houston (Clear Lake), Texas in 1986.
Robert (Bob) and Eleanor were soulmates from the moment they met. His nickname for her was Red. Bob loved Red more than life itself as she loved him. When Bob would call Red’s name too many times and she would not answer, he would call her Blue.
Eleanor was heavily involved in her church, St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church as well at her Bible study group at Hope Church.
Eleanor was a long time member of the local YMCA. She participated in the Water Aerobics class. She was loved by everyone there. Eleanor coordinated the birthday parties, luncheons, etc. Her swim group was like another family to her. Her children were actually a little jealous of the group because Eleanor was ALWAYS busy with “the pool girls”
