Dorothy Mae Cox, 91, a long-time resident of Houston, Texas, passed away quickly and peacefully in Kirkland, Washington on Monday, March 23, 2015. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Dorothy was proud to be the first New Year's baby born in 1924. She attended high school in Fort Worth, and soon thereafter met her husband-to-be Albert D. Cox. Dorothy was a wonderful violin player and told many stories of teaching violin to relatives and neighborhood children. In 1942, Albert and Dorothy were married before Albert went to war in the Pacific. Upon his discharge from the USMC, Dorothy and Albert briefly lived in Klamath Falls, Oregon before returning to Texas to start their family. Dorothy was the proud mother of a beautiful daughter, Cathy. For many happy years Dorothy enjoyed gardening, church activities, helping grandchildren with their homework, and maintaining a beautiful home. Moving to Washington in 2011 after Albert’s passing, Dorothy, with her kind heart and ladylike southern charm, soon made many new friends. She particularly enjoyed the beautiful flowers and trees of the Pacific Northwest, and she even learned to appreciate the beauty of an occasional snowfall. While her greatest joys continued to be family and friends across the country, Dorothy was quite engaged with art classes, shopping trips, museums, and of course, weekly trips to the “beauty shop”. Cathy and Albert’s long wait for Dorothy’s return to them has finally ended, as they are now joyfully reunited and held together in the arms of the Lord. Dorothy is survived by her grandson Neal, granddaughter Robyn, and Robyn's three wonderful children, Kaylin, Justin, and Brooklyn. Dorothy’s funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1st at: Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery 21620 Gulf Fwy. Webster, TX 77598. Family and friends are welcome to arrive at 2 p.m. for a visitation. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The American Heart Association in her memory.
