Charles was born in New Smyrna Beach, Florida to Charles Wilson and Agnes Carlock Fox. They eventually moved to Weirton, West Virginia where Charles finished high school and then joined the Navy when he was only seventeen years old, serving on a PT Boat during WWII. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he dated the love of his life Norma Lou Hortsman and they married on November 11, 1946. He went to college and graduated from Fairmont College before moving to Martinsville, Virginia where he taught High School biology for 2 years. He then went to work for DuPont where he worked for 34 years until his retirement. In 1993 Charles and Norma Lou moved to Texas to be near their son and grandchildren. Charles and Norma Lou were married for 75 years before her passing in October of 2021.
Charles greatly enjoyed being around his family and his son’s in-laws, the Ivy’s, who included he and his wife in all special occasions and family get togethers. This extended family meant so much to him after his move to Texas. He also loved being around his grandkids and took care of them on many occasions, even taking them on vacations together. He loved to golf, read, and more recently browse the internet.
He is preceded in death by wife, Norma Lou; daughter Susan Marie; parents, Charles Wilson and Agnes Fox; brothers, Wayne and Raymond Fox.
Survivors include son, Richard Fox (Jane) of Santa Fe, TX; grandchildren, Lisa Fox-Thomas (Ben) of High Point, NC, Charles “Brad” Fox (Wendy) of Nacogdoches, TX, Jennifer Voyles (Koda) of Santa Fe, TX, and Dylan Fox (Danielle) of Nacogdoches, TX; great-grandchildren Desiree, Caleb, Grace, Faith, Megan, Ivy, Keaton, and Lily; sister, Sally Pacobit (Eddie); brothers-in-law, William "Bill" Horstman (Toot) of Weirton, Dick Horstman (Pat) of Burgettstown, PA and sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Fliermans (Carl) of Augusta, GA. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022, 11 a.m. at Forest Park East Cemetery and will be followed by a military salute at the graveside at noon.
