Billie Sue Ivey Gill of Spring, Texas, was born December 22, 1936, to Edwin and Ollie Evyleen Ivey in Clarks, Louisiana. Billie peacefully passed from this earth into the arms of our heavenly father on May 27, 2022, at the age of 85. She was surrounded by the love of her two sons, who selflessly put their personal lives on hold to help care for and support their parents for the past 2 years.
In 1941 the Ivey family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas when Billie was a young girl so her father could start working for the railroad. Billie was the 2nd of three children. Billie graduated with honors from North Little Rock High School in 1954, where she loved to play softball. Billie enjoyed playing basketball and croquet with her younger brother, Jimmy. The two made quite a competitive team and stayed very close throughout their lives.
Billie was highly intelligent and a hard worker. She attended secretarial school after high school and learned to run an office. Billie was hired for an office position with Lion Oil in El Dorado, Arkansas, where she met her first husband. She relocated to Louisiana, had her first son, Philip, in 1962, and took a position with The Offshore Company to help support her family. Billie was passionate about successfully juggling her career and being a single mother. She was soon blessed to meet the love of her life and soul mate, Jerry Gill. They married and moved to Houston in 1968. They enjoyed family life together and life with their blended family of Jerry’s three daughters, Janie, Heather, and Susan. They soon welcomed the baby of the family, Damon in 1969, who completed their family of seven. Jerry’s successful career in the oil field took him and Billie, all over the world several times. Billie and Jerry were each other’s confidants and best friends. Together they built a happy life filled with respect and honesty. She advised him throughout his career and happily ran their household keeping God first in their lives.
Billie took joy in being a mother to their five children, from being a Cub Scout den mother, to giving advice. Billie loved and supported each of her children and then their spouses. Together, Billie and Jerry loved family above all else in this world. They were always there to help and support their kids through the valleys of life and eagerly celebrated their successes. Their home remained a safe haven and the door was always open. They gave thanks to God for each of their healthy children.
Billie and her husband, Jerry were dedicated members of the North Oaks Baptist Church where they served for many years. Billie enjoyed volunteering for Sunday school and working in the nursery. She also enjoyed helping with vacation bible school every summer. Billies faith was strong, she loved and believed in the Lord with all of her heart, and is in her final home with Jesus in Heaven.
Billie was full of life and truth; touching the heart of anyone she met. She loved to cook and bake. Billie prided herself in having sit-down dinners every night while her kids were growing up and beyond. Her chicken fried steak and pecan pie are family favorites. She was a thoughtful daughter, loving wife, caring sister, supportive mother, and grandmother or GG to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Billie was a joy to her family, who will miss her laughter but are grateful for being loved so well by her.
Billie is preceded in death by her loving husband of over 53 years, Jerry Gill. Her mother Ollie Evyleen Meredith Ivey, her father, Edwin Bert Ivey. Her sister Mildred Evyleen (Mickey) Perry, and her oldest daughter, Janie Lin Gill Cook.
Billie will be deeply missed by her daughter, Heather, and husband Darren and their son Warren Kaiser. Her daughter, Susan, and husband Gary and their children Amber, Clint, and Cody and wife Kennedy Hamilton. Her son Phillip and his children Grace and Trevor Gill. Her son, Damon, and his daughter Nevah Haven Gill. Her granddaughter, Amber, and husband Chris, and their children Madelyn and Morgan Benson. Billie will be missed by her brother, Jimmy, and his wife Ann Ivey and their children Sarah Wilson and Alison Theus. Also by Mickeys children, Lori Domrase and Jim Buris. Billie will be missed by many beloved nephews, nieces, in-laws, and friends.
