Betty JoAnn LaCroix, 78, passed away in her home on October 22, 2010 in Houston, Texas. She was born to Mary and Clifford Hansford in Denver, Colorado, August 8, 1932. She married Collins Hamilton LaCroix on August 1, 1949 and they moved to Houston, Texas in 1962. They enjoyed a loving marriage for 62 years.
Betty is survived by her husband Collins, her son Wayne and wife Annette, and daughters, Cheryl and husband Larry, Sheila and husband Drew, and Teresa. She is preceded in death by son Ronald and grandson Lee.
Betty will be missed by her grandchildren – Adam, Brandon, Bryan, Burnett, Melissa, Josh, and Stacy, step-grandchildren Blythe and Tara, and her great-grandchildren Alley, Chelsea, Cheyenne, James, Jayden, Jonathan, Larissa, Maggie, and Megan.
Her beloved toy poodle, Lil’ Bit, who passed away by her side will also be sorely missed by all the family. She loved him so very much.
In addition to being a great mother, Betty had a successful career as a Geological-Geophysical Draftsperson in the energy industry where she rose to the position of Drafting Supervisor prior to her retirement in the mid 90’s.
She never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Throughout all her personal losses, trials, and tribulations, she never lost her faith or her smile. She tried to make sure that she raised all of her children to be self- reliant individuals who considered the feelings of others. She believed that if something good could not be said about anyone, it was better not to say anything at all. Just her presence made those around her feel safe and secure even though many times communication was simply via a letter or by a phone call.
Betty was always there with a shoulder to lean or cry on. She showed empathy or consideration to all those she met, and in addition, was a great inspiration to all. Neighbors and neighborhood children came by just to say “Hi.” She was the sweetest person anyone could have for a mom. God blessed our family with a wonderful Mother who will be missed so very, very, much.
Betty was very active in two organizations, namely Parents of Murdered Children (POMC) and The Compassionate Friends.
