Tommy was born on February 23, 1938. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the son of the late Lawrence and Evelyn Bryson Hooper. Tommy was preceded in death by special friend, Jerlene Farley and brother-in-law, Freddie Ferguson.
Tommy was part of the 1956 graduating class at WTHS and retired from Dayco, where he made lifelong friends while working in Maintenance. There was nothing he loved more than listening to an old Jim Reeves record and sitting on the front porch watching the world go by. He had a strong faith and attended Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church until his health declined. He was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church, but having been raised in Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church, he chose to end where he began as a child. Tommy was a gentle, quiet, and good person. He requested “Amazing Grace” be engraved on his monument and that is how he viewed his relationship with the Lord.
Tommy is survived by brother, Jimmy Lawrence Hooper (Shirley) of Canton and sister, Becky Hooper Ferguson of Waynesville, two nephews, Greg Hooper (Vallire) of Canton, Matt Ferguson of Waynesville and great niece Lauren Elizabeth Hooper.
You were our brother not by choice, but by the nature of our birth. We could not have chosen a better one, you were the best on earth.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun. We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first begun.
