Roberta "Bobby" Jean Payne

Roberta Payne of Waynesville, NC passed away at her home late on Friday, September 8, 2023, her 87th birthday. Bobby was born on September 8, 1936, in Cleveland, OH to the late Dean and Helen Mock. Bobby was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and perpetually involved in church activities. She enjoyed volunteering, reading, and jigsaw puzzles.

In addition to her parents, Bobby was preceded in death by three husbands, George Marderwald, Art Raymond, and Ken Payne; son, Michael Dean Marderwald; and sister Joan Sabo and her son Bill Sabo.

Bobby is survived by her children, Helen Skelton and Eric Marderwald (Therese); grandchildren, Megan King Golden, William Harrison Skelton, Jesse Marderwald, and Alice Marderwald; great-grandchildren, Jacob King, Tabitha "Leaf" King, and Bruce Skelton; and nephew, Bob Sabo.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Elizabeth Chapel UMC at a date to be determined later.
