Paul Thomas Mehaffey

Paul Thomas Mehaffey, age 86, of Maggie Valley, North Carolina passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023. He was born on April 4, 1936, in Haywood County to the late Conley and Ada Owens Mehaffey. Paul was a farmer and welder. He enjoyed working in his garden, watching the elk and turkeys and taking care of his barn cats. Most of all Paul loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandsons and great-granddaughter. He was a devout Christian and life long member of Peachtree Methodist Church in Maggie Valley. Paul honorably served his country in the US Army and retired from Dayco after 28 1/2 years of service.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Rathbone Mehaffey; sister, Eva Jo Blackburn; and half-sister, Corrine Grasty.

Left to cherish his memory are son, Jack Mehaffey and his wife, Alana; daughter Lisa Nelson and her husband, Tracy; grandsons, Dillon Nelson and his wife, Sam; and Jesse Nelson; great-granddaughter, Ayla Nelson; brother-in-law, Robert Blackburn; sister-in-law, Ilene Ingle and her husband, Leon; along with Margie Rathbone; and numerous nieces, nephews and his community.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, March 15, at Garrett Funerals and Cremations. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations on Thursday, March 16, with the Reverend Jon Snyder officiating. Serving as pallbearers, Tim Carver, Carroll Mehaffey, Mike Mehaffey, Jason Moody, Scott Sutton, Ron Thompson and honorary pallbearer, Tyker Russell.

Burial will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.
