Maggie Valley, NC - James Jackson Carver, 78, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born in Haywood County on August 15, 1940 to the late Dewey and Grace Carver.
James loved to play baseball and signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 1958 and played 4 years. He retired following 40 years service at Dayco where he served as President of the United Rubber Workers Union. He was Co Owner of Maggie Valley Restaurant for 56 years until his retirement. He was a loving and supportive husband, daddy and proud pap to his granddaughters and great grandsons. He was also an avid supporter of Maggie Valley. He loved his church and church family. He enjoyed interacting with employees of the Maggie Valley Restaurant and customers.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Jewell Campbell Carver; sons, Wil Carver and Matthew Carver; six granddaughters and three great grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Hazelwood Baptist Church with the Reverend Tim Lolley officiating. The family will receive friends three hours prior to the service from 11 AM to 2 PM at the church. Burial will be held at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to John F. Keever, Jr. Solace or Mission Rathbun House.
