Carrie Lee (Messer) Sutton

Waynesville-Carrie Messer Sutton passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2020, at the age of 95. She was born in 1925, the oldest of 10 children to the late Glenn and Bonnie Almond Messer. Carrie worked hard all her life at being a housewife and farming. When she was a young girl, she worked several years at the Cataloochee Ranch, when it first started in the 1940’s.

In addition to her parents, Carrie was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, J. B. Sutton, who died in 1997; brothers, Hugh, Lewis, Bill, Everett, Charlie, and Elmer Messer; and sister, Edith Wood.

Carrie is survived by her son Dennis Sutton (Mary); brother Robert Messer; sister, Glennie Sutton; granddaughters, Cathy Sutton (Chris) of Waynesville, Ann Costner, and Melissa Goddard of Newport, TN; great-grandchildren Mason Sutton, Ethan Lewis, Andrew and Sol Sutton, Shannon Costner, and Maci Goddard.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 9, at the Messer Cemetery in Hemphill.
