Betty Jean Conard, age 88, of Waynesville, NC passed away on to her Heavenly home on June 23, 2022. She was born in Highlands, NC at home to Irene and Furman Vinson on March 14, 1934 and moved to Waynesville later in her life.
Betty loved caring for her family, sewing and quilting, gardening, harvesting and canning to prepare for the winter, raising chickens and ducks, and loved watching and feeding the birds and all animals. She loved Bluegrass Music and old Country Music. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles and spoiling her pets Rex, Little Bit and Buttons. She was a safe haven for many who were lost over the years. She was always willing to take in others and try and help them out. She "loved like Jesus" and tried not to judge people or expect them to be without flaws. She never turned anyone away who was hungry and needed a meal. She was truly a wonderful mother to us all.
Over her full 88 years of life, along with caring for her family, she worked at many jobs such as Burlington Hosiery factory in Franklin, Clyde's Restaurant, Barbers Orchard and Arrington's Orchard, in Waynesville, Buster Brown, Silco and Chasm sewing plants in Sylva and Dillsboro. She was a hard-working woman until the age of 82 before retiring from HVO of Waynesville.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Robert Conard; her son Furman "Buck" Crane and his wife Teresa; her grandson, Luke Dyer; her daughter, Bobby Jean; her parents, Furman and Irene Vinson; and her siblings, Barbara Webb, Ralph Vinson, Ruth Lewis, and Norma Conard.
