Barbara Grasty Owen

Barbara Grasty Owen, of Waynesville, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Barbara was born in Haywood County to the late Medford Grasty and Beatrice Conard. She was a member of North Hazelwood Baptist Church. Barbara loved working in her yard and flowers. She also liked NASCAR and drag racing. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Owen, who died in 2014 and also a brother, Charles Grasty. Barbara is survived by one sister, Janet Messer and her husband, Richard; one brother, Harold Grasty and his wife, Pat; one brother-in-law, Claude Owen and his wife, Dianne; four nieces, Angie Rhinehart, Kristie Holcombe, Lisa Messer, and Courtney Carter; one nephew, Wayne Grasty; seven great-nieces; seven great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; and special friends, Donnie and Dianne Bryson, and Martin and Debbie Long. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 18, at North Hazelwood Baptist Church with Pastor James Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Allen Mehaffey, Martin Long, Steve Buchanan, Bob Messer, Mark Allen, and Ray Clark. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Friday, March 17, at Garrett Funerals and Cremations. The family would like to thank Donnie and Dianne Bryson, and Martin and Debbie Long for all they did for Barbara during her illness.
