She was born in Amherst County on April 25, 1926 to the late Hubert Grey and Ruby (Foster) Shrader.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil J. Duncan and a brother, Hubert Shrader.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Hughes of Waynesboro; two grandchildren, Robin Hughes Askew and husband, Miles of Manteo, N.C., Jason Hughes and wife, Jenny of Dillwyn; three great grandchildren, Barrie Hughes, Colin Askew and Ruby Askew; sister-in-law, Thena Bean; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Rustburg High School in 1943 and attended Phillips Business College in Lynchburg.
Mrs. Duncan was a homemaker and a longtime member of Hebron Baptist Church in Afton where she was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary and taught bible school. She loved her family, the Lord and music. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022 at Hebron Baptist Church, Afton with Pastor Billy Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be family members and friends attending the service. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the church.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
